Billy Loesch, a Bay Ridge resident and local student, is seeking to become an Eagle Scout and has begun his work on an Eagle Project to reach the highest rank in Scouting. Loesch is a member of Troop 310 of the Boy Scouts of America based at the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
Loesch is collecting DVDs to provide laughter to the troops and relieve the stress of their tours of duty, and AT&T Global Phone Cards, which will enable the soldiers to call home. Through the organization Soldier’s Angels, the material will be forwarded to the troops overseas and those who are in military hospitals that have been injured.
The DVDs should be new or partially used, in good and working condition, in a protective case or cover, and of appropriate material. The phone cards can only be AT&T Global Phone Cards with enough minutes to make a couple of sufficient phone calls; preferably $10-$20 dollars, or monetary donations to be used towards the purchase of these phone cards is acceptable.
Senator Marty Golden stated, “This community has long been one who has wholeheartedly supported our troops. In this instance, with our support, we will see a fine neighborhood student, Billy Loesch, become an Eagle Scout, and at the same time, we will be sending our support to our troops overseas. I hope many will support this great project.”
Donations will be accepted until May 3. Senator Golden’s District Office, 7408 Fifth Avenue, will be the main drop off point. Arrangements for pickup of donations can be made by contacting Life Scout Billy Loesch at 917-232-8239.
