Runners test their mettle to the max

On your mark, get set, go!

Health-smart boroughites got a step up on summer vigor during a track and field road race carnival in Red Hook.

The weekend celebration drew athletes of all ages and levels to St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street, where they challenged mettle on an eight-lane, 400-meter track, featuring a runway for long jump, hurdles and high jump.

Free health screenings and a jump and throw clinic rounded off the second annual showcase of personal fitness.
