Today’s news:

The best place for family bonding

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts (BCBC) was selected as Brooklyn’s Best Place for Family Bonding as part of Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect’s First Annual Parents’ Picks Awards.

Nickelodeon’s ParentsConnect (www.parentsconnect.com), the online resource for parenting advice and community, asked parents to vote online for the best of their local communities with the Parents’ Picks Awards. In the category of Best Place for Family Bonding, Brooklyn Center was nominated along with Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Coney Island, and the New York Aquarium.

This award follows Brooklyn Center’s recent announcement of an enhanced partnership with Target® in recognition of its efforts to bring quality, affordable performing arts programming to the diverse cultural communities that comprise the borough of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Center is offering lower ticket prices for its family performances with the newly christened 2008-09 Target FamilyFun Series. Now in its 23rd season, the FamilyFun series is designed to provide parents the opportunity to introduce their children to live music, theater and dance at affordable prices. All seats for Brooklyn Center’s 2008-09 Target FamilyFun Series performances are $6, with titles including “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and other Eric Carle Favourites, “The Colonial Nutcracker,” “Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Co.,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Hot Peas ’N Butter.”

Details about these performances, along with streaming video for select shows, can be found at www.brooklyncenteronline.org.

The ParentsConnect’s First Parents’ Picks Awards identified the best family-oriented places and resources in 52 major US cities. The winning venues’ information will remain featured on the site for a year. Nominees were based on recommendations from ParentsConnect.com local city editors that live and work in the cities they cover, in conjunction with ParentsConnect users’ feedback. Users’ votes and rankings ultimately determined which venues were selected as winners in their respective categories.
