Brooklyn Bridge Park continues its wide array of family fun events during summer 2008.
The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s most popular event ends in August when Movies with a View concludes its season.
This is one of the city’s premiere outdoor film series with an eclectic line-up of films and breathtaking views of the NYC waterfront. Each feature is preceded by a short film. DJs from Brooklyn Radio kick off the evening, spinning tunes as the sun sets, and the restaurant RICE sells delicious dinners onsite. Bike valet is provided by Transportation Alternatives.
The series runs Thursdays, through August 28, 6-11 p.m. on the lawn of the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park section of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
August 28 brings “The Shining.”
This summer, local boating groups and boathouses from around the Harbor offer free kayaking and community rowing at ‘the Cove between the bridges’ in Brooklyn Bridge Park. There is no need to sign-up in advance; boating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting wet, and shoes or sandals suitable for walking on a rocky beach.
No training or prior experience is needed. The only requirement is that you know how to swim. All equipment is provided free. Kayaking and canoeing will be inside a protected cove. Rowing will be in a group rowboat with an experienced guide. Children under 18 must have an adult guardian present.
The dates are September 14, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and September 6, 1-5 p.m. in the Cove in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition returns for its 26th year in the park, now to September 7, showcasing sculptures by both local and international artists. For information, visit www.bwac.org.
