Bay Ridge Preparatory School began the 2008-2009 academic year by welcoming a record number of 325 returning and new students to its school community this year. Classes began at the lower & middle schools, 8101 Ridge Boulevard, and the high school, at 7420 Fourth Avenue.
“The number of enrolled students is reflection of the tremendous growth that Bay Ridge Prep has experienced each year since its founding in September 1998,” said Dr. Charles Fasano, headmaster of the lower & middle schools. “It’s also a testament to the amount of faith and trust that our friends and neighbors have in Bay Ridge Prep. For that, we are very grateful.”
At the high school, new students and freshmen attended new student orientation and were briefed on the school’s philosophy and mission. High school seniors also attended an orientation session later that day and discussed the importance of being the leaders of their student body.
Dr. Michael Dealy, headmaster of the high school, reminded the seniors of how precious their time as Bay Ridge Prep students is and how quickly it goes by.
“It seems like it was just a few months ago that you were all sitting here as new students to the high school,” he told the Class of 2009. “Now just imagine how quickly this year, your last year in high school, will go by. Keep in mind how you want to remember your senior year and make sure to take advantage of all our school has to offer. Be involved, be a leader, and be a role model in school and outside of school. Then, when you get to college, you can look back on your years at Bay Ridge Prep and feel confident that it was time well spent.”
In addition to welcoming students to the new school year, Bay Ridge Prep also welcomed returning and new faculty members. Among the returning faculty members is NBA champion Tony Campbell who begins his second year as director of athletics.
Last year, he dramatically improved the varsity basketball program and led the varsity baseball team to clinch the title of Division II Regular Season Champions in the Private School Athletics Association. New members of the Bay Ridge Prep family also include Maureen McShan,e who joins the school as director of development. She comes to the school with many years of experience in development, fundraising and marketing and previously served in multiple roles at Poly Prep and Staten Island Academy.
