To The Editor:
We were blessed to be part of the “ Night of Faith,” sponsored by Thor Equities in August. They sponsored 1000 free tickets for five hours of free rides at Astroland Amusement Park. Little did we know that a few weeks later, Astroland would close its doors for good. Thor also gave us 1000 ice creams and 20 I- pods’s to give away.
The winners of the I-pod’s had to come to me to pick our their color preference and what a joy to see smiling faces. One girl, Jean Marie, from a Brownie troop, wrote a thank you note saying how much she enjoyed using it every day. One mentally and physically-handicapped twelve-year-old was excited about having monkey sounds put onto her I- pod by her parents.
People are still talking about the happy memories of the “Night of Faith.”
My joy was in watching everyone screaming with glee on the rides and bouncing through the park happily and openly praying. I know that God Himself filled us with joy in what turned out to be an historical night. Most of our mission kids had never been to Astroland before in their lives. This was the first time they were able to enjoy going on the rides … and the last.
