Members and friends of the Dyker Heights Civic Association are invited to attend a special panel to address “How Animals Help Our Community and How The Community Can Help Animals,” May 12, 8 p.m., at St. Philip’s Parish Hall, 80th Street and 11th Avenue.
Speakers include the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals; ASPCA and Therapy Dogs International therapy dog teams; ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement; NYPD K9 Unit; USAG Fort Hamilton MPs; Brooklyn Trap, Neuter and Release (TNR); Connors & Sullivan law firm; and Mary Jo Tobin, founder and event organizer, Love Wanted Adoptions, and local author (Love Wanted, True Tails of Love, Loss and Redemption).
Additionally, the Dyker Heights Civic Communications Director will launch her Operation Food Bowl to raise funds to purchase dog and cat food for Reaching−Out Community Services Food Pantry.
Topics include the local government’s role in lowering the euthanization rate and other animal causes, how therapy dogs help comfort and heal seniors, the injured, and infirm, humane education, how we can combat animal cruelty, how police dogs help protect residents, “Horses for Heroes,” the mission of Army bomb and drug dogs, humane solutions to stray cats, Pet Trusts, and companion animal adoption.
