With so much talk about businesses that can’t seem to make it in today’s economy, it’s refreshing to find a local business that has been around since 1925.

Two cousins, Hercules and Jim Sirico, are proud to be running Sirico’s Caterers (8023 13th Avenue, 718-331-2900), the premier catering establishment that was started by their grandparents. This family business has been a long-time staple in the neighborhood, showcasing weddings, Communions, graduations, 50th anniversary parties, and countless other special occasions.

When you’ve been around this long, there are reasons. Among them are the fabulous food and personalized attention every bride receives on her wedding day. “We’ve always had nothing but the greatest compliments,” says Hercules, about all the weddings he has helped to plan.

No doubt it’s because brides and grooms, or whomever else is celebrating a special occasion, deal directly with the owners themselves, from the initial planning stages and then, throughout their special day. There is only one wedding at a time, and “We throw a fabulous affair,” promises Hercules.

Menus are designed to accommodate the needs of all guests. For example, choices may be made from different entrees such as Chateaubriand, Grilled Veal Chop, Rack of Lamb, Chicken Florentine, Shrimp Scampi, Grilled Norwegian Salmon, and NY Cut Sirloin Steak. They are famous for their seafood, their wonderful salad, their clams on a half shell, and their shrimp and lobster station. Appetizers may include their popular Seafood Medley and Fresh Mozzarella Caprese.

Sirico’s specializes in Italian cuisine, so expect pasta dishes such as Rigatoni Filet di Pomodori, Penne a La Vodka, Cavatelli Broccoli Rabe, and Pesto Ravioli.

For dessert, impress your guests with one of their famous Chocolate Fountains.

Note that food can also be tailored to accommodate the needs of the many diverse New Yorkers. Simply talk to them about what you have in mind.

Sirico’s is situated on a beautiful, quiet, tree-lined block in Dyker Heights. And speaking of trees, there are lovely colorful gardens in front of the catering hall, which makes for pretty pictures. This springtime effect continues into the Starfire Room where there are live trees, gardens, and skylights, which capture the same outdoor feeling. Weather permitting, part of the reception can be outside. There are separate rooms for the cocktail hour, reception, and Viennese hour.

Sirico’s recently renovated to capture the atmosphere desired by so many of today’s brides. There’s a new LED lighting system that creates different room environments; sets the mood; and makes the scene. For example, a blue sky effect will create that “outdoor feeling,” no matter what the weather or the time of year.

They can also color-coordinate your event, through the use of lighting. Perhaps you are celebrating a golden anniversary. The ceiling can be gold, and that color can also match the table cloths. At Sirico’s, the sky is obviously not the limit.

“We’ve got everything a bride wants to impress the guests,” says Hercules. The facility is modern, festive, and elegant, with a lighted dance floor, vaulted ceilings, and a 50-foot long skylight. It’s the perfect setting for both afternoon and evening affairs.

The wonderful presentation extends to the food, which is always impeccable, and sure to get both you and your guests into a party mood.

For those who prefer to do it all at Sirico’s, there’s a chapel on the premises.

Note that they have also hosted community, church events, and retirement parties, for decades.

When you’re ready to plan your next extravaganza, trust the place that has been around for more than 80 years. For additional information, visit, or stop by and speak with Hercules or Jim, Tuesdays through Sundays, from 1:30-9:30 p.m.
