A 66-year-old father of five was killed Saturday as he walked his dog down Gerritsen Avenue.
Officials said that Fred Wilson was struck down just paces away from where he raised his children and enjoyed playing with his three grandchildren, shattered friends and loved ones said last week.
He was crossing Gerritsen Avenue between Avenue T and U just before 7:30 p.m. on September 12 when he was struck by a 1993 Chevrolet driven by a 78-year-old motorist.
Members of the Flatlands Volunteer Ambulance Corps rushed Wilson to Kings County Hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police from the 61st Precinct said that the driver remained at the scene and was not facing any criminal charges as this paper went to press. The investigation into the accident was continuing.
Before taking his dog out, Wilson told his family that he was going to go grab an after dinner ice cream cone, loved ones told reporters.
He said he would be right back, they said.
