Now an annual tradition, Councilwoman Sara M. González handed out thousands of school supplies to boys and girls in Red Hook. The councilwoman joined with local activist Jay McKnight of the Red Hook Lions and Councilman John Liu to set up tables outside the Fine Fare Supermarket. The children began lining up early in anticipation of an event they have enjoyed for several years now.
“This event is one of the great activities I really enjoy taking part in every year because it gives me the opportunity to speak directly with the children as they share their hopes and dreams for the future and their plans for the coming school year,” the Councilwoman said. “I can speak with the parents at the same time to discuss any issues they might be facing. They all know that at the end of the school year I give a citation to every graduate in the district and special achievement awards to two students from every school.I think it’s important for them to know they have my support throughout the year,” González concluded.
