To The Editor:

Dear Stanley Gershbein, (“It’s Only My Opinion”), I would like to comment on two of your recent articles, but before I do that, let me say that you are one of the main reasons I continue my subscription to this publication. When I get my paper in the mail, the first thing I do is find your “It’s Only My Opinion” column.

With regard to the comment about Leon Panetta to head the CIA, and his lack of support for the means necessary to get information from potential enemies, I agree with you totally that those in charge of interrogation of terrorist suspects should be given a total and free hand to do whatever is necessary to get the information that may be used to save the lives of Americans.

In addition, I also agree that wiretapping is necessary and I for one have nothing to hide, so if the government wants to listen to me, so be it. But if listening-in can stop one terrorist act, it will all be worth it. Our new president with his left-wing and liberal ideology will destroy the CIA.

Also, with regard to your question about how many rockets landing on American soil would we allow before retaliating; the answer is obviously only one, and that would be one too many.

As an American and as a Jewish American I, wholeheartedly, support the actions of the State of Israel in its defense of its citizens. If anything, for every one rocket they manage to send into southern Israel, or anywhere else in Israel for that matter, the response should be at a minimum 10 times greater than the attack on Israel.

Mr. Gershbein, keep up the great writing and the sound reasoning you have expressed behind it.

Allan F. Hyatt

Stanley Gershbein responds:

Dear Mr. Hyatt,

I pray that choosing Leon Panetta doesn’t backfire and hurt us.

I was just informed that it is ‘Hug a Jew Day.’ Please consider this a great big hug from one Jewish American to another to thank you for your wonderful letter.

My best to you and yours.
