Two people were hospitalized early Saturday after their red pick-up truck slammed grill-first into a light pole.
Witnesses told authorities that the pick-up truck was traveling at a high rate of speed at 2 a.m. on March 6 when it impacted with the pole at the corner of Burnett Street and Avenue U.
When rescuers arrived, both the driver and the passenger were still trapped inside. Firefighters pried open the passenger side “with their own bare hands” to free the injured occupants, according to some accounts.
EMTs rushed both victims to Brookdale Hospital for treatment. Their condition was unknown as this paper went to press. The investigation into the accident was continuing.
