A key arrest of a pair of robbers has earned two Canarsie police officers “Cop of the Month” honors.
Officer Priscilla Goncalves and Officer Boris Durets were saluted at the March meeting of the 69th Precinct Community Council, which was held at the Hebrew Educational Society, on Seaview Avenue at East 95th Street.
The duo was “on patrol in the Paerdegats when they observed two individuals running with a female’s purse in their hands,” explained Capt. Milt Marmara, the 69th Precinct commander.
They followed, apprehending the suspects and subsequently locating a woman they had attacked, Marmara said.
The woman was on her way home from work when the two perpetrators struck, Marmara said, telling the group, “It wasn’t enough that they had to take her bag. They viciously threw her to the ground, were punching her in her face.”
All of the woman’s stolen property was recovered, Marmara said, adding that the suspects were “being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
