Cory Vaughn’s walk-off single plated the league’s leading hitter Darrell Ceciliani, giving the Cyclones their third win in a row and their ninth over their last 10 games.
Vaughn’s heroics came after the Cyclones spent the entire afternoon chipping away at Lowell’s 3–0 lead with single runs in the second (on Kurt Steinhauer’s SAC fly), third (on Vaughn’s double) and fifth innings (on Jeff Flagg’s SAC fly).
Vaughn was the offensive star of the game, but Ceciliani was 3-for-5, raising his average to .383.
Starter A.J. Pinera was roughed up in the second inning, and left the game on the losing side. But the late comeback made a winner out of closer Johan Figuereo, erasing some memory of a horrific recent blown save.
The next Cyclones home game is Friday night at 7 pm at MCU Park [1904 Surf Ave. at W. 19th Street in Coney Island, (718) 449-8497]. For info, visit www.brookl
