A firefighter from Ladder 157 takes a quick breather as he and his team put out a near-fatal fire on East 15th Street near Avenue K in Midwood.
Officials said that the all-hands blaze erupted inside the two-story home at 7:40 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses said that smoke was pouring from the windows.
At least one resident was rushed to a Staten Island hospital with serious burns, officials said. The fire was brought under control by 8:15 p.m. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze was still under investigation as this paper went to press.
