Fannisha Price may have even surprised herself with her fourth-quarter shooting performance.
“Once I hit the first and second, one I just got in rhythm,” the South Shore junior forward said. “I didn’t think I can make that many in a row.”
Price scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter, including four consecutive jumpers from all over the floor to help South Shore pull away for a 55-44 win over Robert E. Lee (Va.) at the Breezy Bishop Showcase at Poly Tech HS on Sunday morning. Jasmine Odom scored all 16 of her points in the second half and Jenice Winter added 12 points for South Shore.
“She came alive in the second half,” Vikings coach Anwar Gladden said of Price, who is capable of such outbursts.
South Shore (5-2) trailed by two heading into the fourth quarter. Price would score the next eight points for her team around the fifth 3-pointer of the game for Robert E. Lee’s Jamila Thomas (15 points). Price hit a turnaround jumper on the right side and one of the fallaway variety from the left to keep South Shore in the lead at 43-41 with 4:25 left in the contest.
“In the beginning of the game I had an off game,” Price said. “Anwar was nagging me about my defense. I said when he puts me back in I’m just going to give it my all. “
Odom, who also asserted herself in the second half, would later come up with a steal and pushed it ahead to Winter for 3-point play that put South Shore up 47-43 with 3:18 left. Price followed that up with a big block of Daquaa Scott and put back of a Winter miss down the other end. Odom sealed the win against Robert E. Lee (4-2) at the free throw line.
“She has to come out a little bit more aggressive, but thankfully she turned it on in the second half and carried us,” Gladden said of Odom.
