Standing OHeavily armed cops dressed in riot gear converged on Flatlands on Nov. 2 after a young tough attacked his girlfriend, then refused to surrender to authorities, police said.
Police arrested Kareem Michel, 22, for assault, unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child after a midday hostage situation inside an Avenue I home near E. 48th Street.
Witnesses said Michel’s girlfriend accused him of cheating, sparking an argument. During the ensuing fight, Michel allegedly threw her girlfriend to the ground and threatened her.
Someone called 911, but when cops arrived, Michel wouldn’t come out or let his victim and a child inside the home leave.
Cops called in members of the NYPD’s elite Emergency Services Unit.
The squad — who were armed with submachine guns and attack dogs — arrested Michel after a brief standoff.
Michel hadn’t been arraigned by Thursday afternoon, a spokesman from District Attorney Charles Hynes office said.
