Bag of tricks

A 58-year-old man with an impressive bag of tools was arrested for burglarizing a man’s E. 56th Street apartment on Oct. 10 — taking more than 3,000 worth of jewelry.

The victim told police that he returned to his home between Gleenwood Road and Avenue H at 8 pm, where he found the suspect rummaging through his jewelry boxes. Upon being discovered, the suspect kicked the victim in the chest and a struggle ensued, before the suspect was able to free himself and flee, reported police.

He didn’t get far, though, and when cops arrested him they found the victim’s jewelry, along with a knife, two Mace canisters, a screwdriver, three pairs of gloves, tweezers, a flashlight, and a mask, according to officials.

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy who they say robbed a man at gunpoint on Avenue H on Oct. 11, taking his cellphone.

The victim told police that he was near Kings Highway at 10:50 pm when the suspect leveled a pistol in his direction and took the man’s phone.

Backpack burglar

A 32-year-old man was arrested for burglarizing a man’s E. 34th Street home on Oct. 15 — taking credit cards, a laptop, a wallet, and the victim’s iPhone.

The victim told police that he left his home between Avenues K and L at 5:06 am, and returned later to find that one of his window screens had been slashed and that his valuables were missing. A police officer later found a backpack containing the victim’s property outside of his apartment building and when he arrested the suspect, found him in possession of the victim’s iPhone and a screwdriver, according to police.

Dirty sailors

Police arrested a 59-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man who they say tried to pilfer clothes from an Avenue U Old Navy store on Oct. 12.

A witness told police that he was inside the retailer between E. 54th and E. 55th streets at 2:20 pm, where he saw the female suspect take a comforter, socks, and a pair of jeans off the shelves and hand them to her accomplice, who stuck them in an Old Navy bag.

The pair then attempted to leave without paying, said police.
