So, you call yourself a Brown Coat?

South Slope bar Freddy’s is having a trivia night challenging fans’ knowledge of the short-lived, but beloved sci-fi western “Firefly,” and host Jessica Pepper is laying out a bevy of prizes including show-inspired t-shirts and comics for the wisest rebel in the ’verse.

“Firefly has some really bizzare information in it, which you gloss over when you’re watching the show,” said Pepper, who’s been spending her lunch hours watching the show in what can only be called a trivia host’s version of cramming for a test.

Pepper previously held a “Game of Thrones” trivia contest at Freddy’s in March, where official “Game of Throne’s” beer — a pleasant Summer ale — was served to fans’ delight.

However, she had trouble on her hands when she found herself with two winners and all her questions exhausted. Not wanting to call a draw, or, perhaps, without enough prizes, she did what any smart host would do — she turned the trivia match into a singing contest, which was decided by a tried-and-true, audience-powered clap-O-meter.

“We had tie at the end, so, I had the winners sing ‘The Bear and the Maiden fair,’” Pepper said, referring to a song that appeared in Season Three of the show. “Who ever got the biggest response won.”

Naturally, fans of “Firefly” — who are commonly referred to as Brown Coats — should be familiar with the show’s theme song, but the all-time favorite tune is inarguably, “The Hero of Canton, the Man they Call Jayne” a folk ballad sung by a naive population of Outer-Rim mud farmers, who enjoy a windfall after the show’s dim-witted hired gun Jayne Cobb reluctantly tosses a pilfered chest of gold, not to mention his accomplice, from a flying car in order to escape incoming flak.

It would make for a good tie-breaker, according to Pepper.

To keep things interesting, Pepper is promising prizes for patron’s who show up dressed as their favorite character from the show, and the bar will have secret, show-inspired drink specials for the night.
