A hate crime is a hate crime no matter what race you are

Shocker, the New York Times got it wrong again.

The ultra-liberal, mamby-pamby editors of the Gray Lady didn’t have the guts to point out that Sheepshead Bay Resident Jeffrey Babbitt was the victim of a hate crime when he was punched and killed by a black man in Manhattan last week.

How did the times headline the story?

Fatally assaulted in possible random hate crime.”

Are you kidding? Babbitt, the 62 year-old, retired MTA train operator, was the wrong white man in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now he is dead, and the editors of the Paper of Record need to take their heads out of their posterior and call a hate crime a hate crime. No “ands,” “ifs,” or “possibles” about it.

The alleged thug, Lashawn Marten, reportedly assaulted Mr. Babbitt after he shouted, “I’m going to punch the first white man I see,” right before Mr. Babbitt unfortunately walked by. I don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty biased and hate-fueled to me.

So my question is, “Hey Mr. Sharpton, Mr. Obama, where are you now?” I’d like to know why you haven’t grabbed the mic and declared your wrath over this most definite hate-bias crime.

Well, it’s clear as day that Mr. Sharpton is busy looking for just the right hate crime to get his picture in the paper and our president, Mr. Obama, is too busy making disappearing red lines in the sand with Syria to be worried about Mr. Babbitt. It’s funny how both Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Obama seem to suffer from a terrible case of selective righteousness.

Trayvon Martin was important enough for Mr. Sharpton’s speechifying and action as well as the president to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Trayvon’s parents, but not Jeffrey Babbitt, whose 94-year-old mother is now left bereft and alone. Who will pat Mrs. Babbitt on the shoulder and commiserate with her loss? Will Mr. Sharpton run to be by her side? Will the president make a special visit to Brooklyn to hold her hand and shed a tear at her son’s loss?

No one should be attacked, whether black, white, red, or green. We have come to a point in our evolution where these crimes must stop occurring.

But the bigger point is that when they do, everyone — every single one of us — should raise our indignation to the highest voice and defend those that are assaulted. Mr. Sharpton and Mr. President included. The unbridled greedy need for publicity should not be the criteria for them to raise their voices and put their mouths to good use, defending all that are victimized because of race.

And the media needs to get on board too. I don’t read a paper or listen to the nightly news to hear an opinion, I’m looking to hear the facts, just the facts. The media’s responsibility is to report the news, not their opinions and slanted views.

Not for Nuthin,™ but Jeffrey Babbitt deserves the same indignation as Trayvon Martin. And their ain’t no “possibles” about it.

Joey from Bay Ridge says:
It's a POSSIBLE hate crime until he is CONVICTED of that hate crime. Same way that responsible media don't call people murderers until there's a verdict. Until then they're suspects, defendants, etc etc who've been charged with doing X or who "allegedly" did it.

Good Lord, what's wrong with the "African-American" community? You are only 13% of the US population, yet you commit 50% 9f the rapes, murders and armed robberies along with 80% of the drug related crimes in this nation.

Keep it up and us "creepy ass crackers" will start hunting you like vermin and eradicate you from the continent, regardless of the laws enacted by Barry, Eric Holder and every other bleeding heart liberal jackass.

You can only push people so far before they decide to take the law into their own hands.

Hate crimes? Ha! What a joke. Black people are the most hateful and uncivilized people on the planet. You act like a bunch of wild chimps. Don't believe me? Check out the African continent.

We are tired of your uncivilized and perpetual state of self-inflicted victimhood.

You best get a grip on yourselves and join the civilization or face eradication.

Bunch of monsters. Our patience and tolerance is at an end.

Apollo Gregg from Harlem, NY says:
The problem has been the focus on irrelevant arguments – some of which are actually unsupported by the evidence.

1. ‘GZ racially profiled TM’ There is no evidence of this.

2. ‘GZ disobeyed an order by the police’ * The civilian dispatcher, Sean Noffke, testified that he did not give GZ an order and, in fact, he, like his fellow dispatchers, are trained not make comments that sound like commands. * Noffke also testified under cross that, as a result of his asking GZ which way TM was going, GZ could have reasonably interpreted this as being asked to follow Martin. * It is also not a crime in Florida to disregard a comment made by a civilian dispatcher.

3. ‘GZ got out of his car’ Not a crime on public property and not negligent either.

4. ‘GZ followed TM’ Again, anyone can follow anyone on a public street unless the followee has obtained a restraining order against the follower and even there, the RS only places time, place, and manner restrictions on the person enjoined.

5. ‘GZ wasn’t really injured’ * Under Florida’s self-defense laws, one doesn’t have to be injured AT ALL to use deadly force * No one is required to refrain from defending himself while another is engaged in or attempting to commit a felony.

6. ‘TM is dead through no fault of his own’ * If you believe that TM assaulted GZ, then he IS dead as a result of his own actions.

7. ‘GZ could have left’ * Under Florida law, there is not a duty to withdraw rather than use deadly force * TM was straddling GZ so how the latter was supposed to leave the scene is unanswered.

8. ‘GZ was armed and TM wasn’t’ * One’s fists can be considered weapons and can result in severe bodily harm or death. * GZ was legally carrying a weapon * There is no requirement under the law that the same weapon be used by the assailant * A homeowner can kill an intruder whether or not he has been threatened * Those that attack cannot feign surprise if they are met with superior firepower.

9. ‘Stand Your Ground!’ * SYG is NOT at issue in this trial. * The defense is a classic self-defense case.

10. ‘Black men NEVER get to use SYG!’ * Wrong

11. ‘GZ is a man and TM was a boy!’ * As if ‘boys’ don’t commit murder, rape, and assault everyday in this country.

You are rehashing details of the Zimmerman case here, at obsessive length, exactly *why,* "Apollo" from "Harlem"?
Are you on the wrong site? Or are you one of those guys who turned the case into a hobby and can't resist typing "GZ," "TM" and "SYG" in any available space?

These criminal episodes go by different names: Flash mobs, flash robs, black on white crime, or as one social worker put it: Kids just “blowing off steam.” Anything except what they are: Racial violence. "White Girl Bleed a Lot" documents everything..

Damo from NotEvenCloseToNewYork says:
The Martin case didn't get so much attention simply because Martin and Zimmerman had different color skin. Intraracial killings happen very frequently in America. It got the attention because people felt that the case wasn't being treated seriously by the police, and that the reason was Martin's skin color. Now you can disagree with that interpretation if you like (as I do), but the fact remains that Martin's case was getting that attention because people thought the police weren't taking the case seriously. In this case? The killer's in custody. Was put in custody immediately. The police are very obviously taking the case seriously.

The killer's also a mentally ill homeless person. Schizophrenia. Sound familiar? It should. This time it someone shouting anti-white racism and killing a white man. Last time it was someone shouting anti-Muslim racism and killing an Indian man. We've got "Kendra's Law" because back in 1999 schizophrenic Andrew Goldstein pushed Kendra Webdale onto the tracks. They're not getting the care they need and people keep dying because of it.

Jerry from Dyker Heights says:
You nailed it, Damo.
Unfortunately, critical-analogical thinking and distinction-making doesn't cut it anymore. It's all about emotive rants, theraoy issues and spin.

The Zimmcase would have been hugely different if Mr. Z were taken into custody after a homicide (instead of getting a discretionary pass) or were yet another mentally-ill person who fell between the cracks.
