These women know how to get down and dirty.

The LoziLu Women’s Mud Run at Aviator Sports and Events on July 12 was filled with estrogen, obstacles, and — of course — mud. The mix of mud on the five-kilometer course may be a deterrent to some runners but for one participant, the mud is the reason she signed up.

“What makes running through the mud appealing? It’s different,” said Lisa Abruzzino, from the team Dirty Zumba Girls. “You don’t ever really get to do that.”

The run, which consisted of several different heats, wasn’t timed — and Abruzzino said that helped her enjoy it more.

“It was more of a, ‘let’s have fun and enjoy it,’ rather than ‘let’s beat other people,’ ” said Abruzzino.

The “fish net” — a vertical net of rope that participants had to climb over— was Abruzzino’s favorite part of the course, but she said she enjoyed every obstacle.

“They were all fun,” said Abruzzino.
