A daring thief tunnelled his way into the Sovereign Bank on 86th Street on Jan. 15, but ended up fleeing with his tail between his legs after tripping the burglar alarm.

Bank employees said the thief broke into an adjacent building with connecting basements and took the time to bore a hole up through the floor.

Yet all that work was for nothing: Once he got inside, he hit the alarm and fled.
