Mazzat is a Middle Eastern-flavored tapas bar that opened on Columbia Street in December of 2006. According to owner Gamal Bakhoum, the most popular tapas plates at the restaurant are the Moroccan chicken cigars, spicy chicken and herbs, wrapped and fried like a spring roll, and the falafel plate. Additionally, entrees like the vegetarian Middle Eastern platter, including falafel, hummus, baba ghanouj, tabouli and grape leaves and the Alexandria-style grilled bronzini are also very popular. For dessert, Bakhoum recommends the homemade baklava, made with California pistachio nuts and house-made sugar syrup. For even more after-dinner enjoyment, Bakhoum plans on bringing hookah pipes into the restaurant after 10 pm. Open for lunch and dinner from noon until 11 pm daily and for brunch on weekends.
