Assemblywoman Joan Millman heralds spring and the opportunity to enjoy local produce, dairy, meat and seafood at New York City Greenmarkets.

There are countless benefits to doing your grocery shopping at a Greenmarket — food is grown locally and does not have to travel as far to reach your table, farmers are often on−hand to answer your questions, freshly−picked produce retains more nutrients than produce boxed and shipped from distant locations and unsold produce is donated to New York City food banks.

“I encourage all my constituents, young and old, to reap the benefits of shopping at their neighborhood farmer’s market,” says Millman. “Thanks to the Greenmarket program, there are opportunities in each borough of the city to buy locally grown products. This weekend I welcome the opening of the Carroll Park Greenmarket, the only greenmarket in the area open on Sundays.”

Millman’s district boasts three Greenmarket locations — Brooklyn Borough Hall, Carroll Park, and Grand Army Plaza. Below are the times and locations of each market:

Brooklyn Borough Hall Greenmarket, Court and Montague streets in Downtown Brooklyn, open Tuesdays and Saturdays year round from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursdays from April through December from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Carroll Park Greenmarket, Carroll and Smith streets, open Sundays now through December from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket, Prospect Park West and Flatbush Avenue, open Saturdays year round from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Cards can be used.
