A man died from a drug overdose at Bay Ridge’s troubled Prince Hotel on April 30, officials said.

Neighbors have long alleged the 93rd Street flophouse is a den of drugs and vice. City officials announced they’d take over the hotel near Third Avenue and sell it at auction next month — a sale that cannot come soon enough, the local councilman said.

“The community and I look forward to the June 8th auction date of the property,” said Councilman Vincent Gentile (D–Bay Ridge), who claims the death was drug-related and expressed sadness for the death. “Any thought that the Prince Hotel is a healthy place to stay or live is simply a fallacy.”

A manager found the 42-year-old victim unresponsive on the floor of his room after he did not check out of the room at noon on Saturday, sources familiar with the incident said.

The hotel has racked up more than $400,000 in fines for dangerous building conditions.

And calls for enforcement against the Prince intensified last year after the Department of Education announced plans to open a pre-kindergarten facility about 500 feet away on 93rd Street near Fourth Avenue.

Mayor DeBlasio apologized for not cracking down on the lewd lodge sooner and pledged action at a town hall on Feb. 16. A day later, sheriffs raided the hotel’s register and began garnishing its income. The city announced in March it would seize the building and sell it at auction to recoup the fines.

A medical examiner has not determined the man’s cause of death, officials said.

I have lived at the prince hotel for many years.the people that want the place closed i have sat at the window and listened to them call the police and 311 in front of the hotel. Of course the gps goes to the hotel i have names of those people and will submit them in court on the 13th of may .One call was even made the day when the sherrifs were here and they saw themselves nothing was going on. Also i called josephine beckman one day i didnt say who i was .I had asked her what happens if the landlord pays the fines i told her i see alot of duplicate and triplicate bills like it was done as an act of harrassment. She said to me if he pays the fines i will just call on him and get the violations all over again . She has her own agenda for the building. She should concentrate on the croaker that dispenses pills and etc. right NEXT DOOR to were they want to build the pre k. The article they just wrote contradicted itself it says about an overdose at the hotel yet at the end of the article it states that the coroner has not made the cause of death yet. Does that make sense? The people know that the 93 lounge was the cause of alot of the problem it has been closed for 2 years even ted moustakis that lives on the block admits in one of his previous remarks to the press yes it could be the clubs fault. Yes the landlord owes for violations but nothing near as much as is stated. All will come out in court. We the tenants stand by the landlord fully.

Community board shame on you. All of the tenants at the prince hotel are elderly and disabled. Are you going to pay relocation fees for these people, some can't even walk to look for any housing. They should sue. I spoke to them and some will be seperated, and the others will be homeless. These could be your parents,or grandparents. I hope they sue.

The mayor bill de blasio aka warren willhelm did no orchestrate the seizure of the prince hotel. The siezure started on february 8th 2016. He just showed up to the town hall meeting on the 16th,and took credit for the seizure, on the 17th. The court orders were on the 8th. He's as phoney as his name.

This is addressed to Mark from "bayridge" and Steve Palmer (any relation to Robert?)

Marty Golden turned a blind eye to the Prince for many years. Why? Because Moses Freid kept his campaign coffers stuffed with cold hard cash. While the community cried out about this hell-hole, it fell on deaf ears because Marty never told Bloomberg about this. Then when the new mayor came in he was made it rain because he is not beholden to Moses Freid or Marty Golden. So you might not like the Tall Duke but it was him who made this happen after years and years of inaction

Why is the mayor being investigated for illegal trangressions of his own,in the amount of $50,000 for taking money from slumlords right now. I stayed at the prince hotel 2 years back when i came from the midwest i found it very pleasurable. The rooms were clean and very well kept. By no means is it a flophouse , i have stayed in a flophouse in chinatown it was deplorable the prince was very nice.Anyone that says its a flophouse never saw the rooms and the halls.and was never in there. Please look into the mayors past its very shady, when you do you will see what is reality. Related to carl palmer.

Neighborhood please lookup vincent gentile, and josephine beckman of the community board 10. They have skeletons in their closets ,look up their names and addresses on ACRIS and DOB they have violations of illegal construction and work without permits on their homes and not letting inspectors in also. Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? Why are they trying to close the prince hotel when their doing the same thing. What is there Agenda. Time to come clean josephine beckman and vincent gentile. Stop hurting the elderly of the prince hotel and stop the harrassment.
