Sheepshead Bay

Yiamas!

Standing O is raising a glass of ouzo to Pauline Nikolakakos in celebration of her 100th birthday on March 12. The centenarian was born Pauline Demas in Sparta, Greece in 1918 and emigrated to the United States at 22 years old to join her father and brothers. In 1946 she tied the knot with George D. Nikolakakos and together raised three daughters, Stella, Olga, and Maryann.

The longtime Bay resident, who still lives in the neighborhood and is helped by home care assistants, Michelle and Sheryl, worked in the garment district as a coat finisher for over 30 years and now spends her time listening to music, watching Greek TV, and counts Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud as her favorite shows. She regularly attends service at the Greek Orthodox Church on Ave. P, where she is a senior member, enjoys visits with her family and chatting with her older brother George Demas, who is 103 and resides with his son in Atlanta, Ga.

The family, including son-in-laws Joseph, Ted and Tommy, together with grandchildren, Anthony and spouse Vicky, George and spouse Cheryl Lee, Anna, Elena and spouse Shawn, and Peter with spouse Lauren, and Paul and Thomas, great grandchildren, Alexandra, Daphne, Joseph, Stelyn, Caitlin, and George will be celebrating the happy occasion at a whoop-de-do party on March 12.

Daughter Maryann said: “I wish my mom a very happy and healthy birthday.” Standing O added a charo├║mena genéthlia (happy birthday) for good measure.
