Fire marshals arrested and charged a Staten Island contractor with reckless endangerment at the scene of a Mapleton fire on 63rd Street after he allegedly broke the law by using a torch to install roofing materials, which sent the three-story building up in flames for nearly two hours on April 11.

The blaze erupted at the building between 19th and 20th avenues around 3:15 pm. More than 150 firefighters fought the inferno between the second story and the attic until around 5 pm, according to a rep from the fire department. Two firefighters went to Maimonides Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and one civilian who refused medical attention also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The building did not have a smoke alarm, according to the fire department.
